STATEN  ISLAND,  NY – "VIRUS" is a video installation/performance art piece by Staten Island-based multimedia artist and animator, Steven Lapcevic, featuring a live musical/sound performance by Feeding Fingers frontman, Justin Curfman (Germany) and puppetry by New York City artist, Christina Bryant.

The installation intends to explore the detrimental effects of the excessive consumption of nonessential information through mainstream media outlets and how it ultimately distorts and poisons our views of reality.

"VIRUS" is made possible, in part, by a grant from Staten Island Arts with public funding from The New York State Council on the Arts.

About the Artists:  

Steven Lapcevic
STEVEN LAPCEVIC (Staten Island, NY) is a self-taught, digital artist and animator living in Staten Island, NY. For the past nine years he has been exhibiting his work publicly in group shows in the NYC area and locally on Staten Island at the 2009 COAHSI Gala and the past three LUMEN festivals. His animation has been featured in David Chocron's multimedia experience "Dreamweaver", "DREAMS: Cinema of the Subconscious” directed by Roko Belic, and most recently in the film "Disaster 501: What Happened to Man?" - conceptualized by Lars von Trier and directed by Jenle Hallund. Mr. Lapcevic has been the recipient of the 2010 COAHSI Excellence in the Arts Award, the 2010 Experimental Television Center Grant and a 2013 NYSCA Original Work Grant.

Justin Curfman
JUSTIN CURFMAN  (Salzburg, Austria) is a musician, animator and multi-media artist based in Germany and Austria. Since 2003, Curfman has published five books, released three stop-motion animated films (winning the “David Lynch Award” at Cinerama in 2006) and four critically-acclaimed music albums with his trio, Feeding Fingers – within which has toured internationally alongside acts such as, Nitzer Ebb, IAMX (Chris Corner of Sneaker Pimps) and David J. (BAUHAUS, Love & Rockets, etc.). Curfman and Lapcevic have worked together regularly as creative collaborators on Feeding Fingers music videos since 2009 in the United States, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Christina Bryant
CHRISTINA BRYANT (New York City, NY) has designed and constructed props, puppets, and sets for theatrical productions, music videos, and short films. She has also acted as Director, Art Director, Art Department Key, Set Decorator, Dresser, and Buyer, Costume Designer and Supervisor on set. Christina has been honored to learn from and work with some incredible artists including; Basil Twist (best known for his underwater puppet show, "Symphonie Fantastique”), Lone Wolf Tribe (puppetry theatre ensemble based in Brooklyn, NY), HERE Arts Center Dream Music Puppetry (New York), Fordham Alumni Company (New York), F.U.C.T. (performance art group), Michael Pope (filmmaker, New York), and The Dresden Dolls. Christina earned her B.A. in Directing from Fordham University, 2003.
